Actress and Activist Emma Watson Sets Up Sexual Harassment Helpline
Actress Emma Watson recently launched a sexual harassment helpline for victims in the UK. The legal advice line will help those experiencing sexual harassment at work, giving them the information they need on settlements, non-disclosure agreements and how best to file a claim against an employer,
“Understanding what you’re rights are, how you can assert them and the choices you have if you’ve experienced harassment, is such a vital part of creating safe workplaces for everyone,” said Watson in her announcement of the advice line.
Watson donated $1.2 million to Time’s Up UK Justice, which funds the advice line along with Equality Fund. British charity Rights of Women will provide the service for the advice line.
According to research from the National Trade Union TUC Labour union, one in two British women has experienced sexual harassment in the workplace.
The Realist Woman’s take:
A high-profile person certainly doesn’t have to, but I greatly appreciate when a celebrity or someone with influence uses their platform to advocate for good causes.
Emma Watson not only put her money where her mouth is but she is very much involved in helping women navigate their way through confronting workplace sexual harassment. I admire that and I'm happy that women in England have a safe place to report workplace sexual harassment and fight it.
