Black Women Can Fly
I came across a story highlighting black female pilots. Founded by black women, a nonprofit international aviation organization called Sisters of the Skies, provides women of color with scholarships and mentorships in the industry, as well as the emotional support needed to take on aviation as a career.
The disparities among black women in aviation are jarring, with black women representing less than one half of 1% professional pilots. In all, a little more than 6% of commercial pilots are women.
Sisters of the Skies addresses these disparities and formed an outreach program for girls of color elementary school age up to high school, who are interested in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) fields.
