Every April, Equal Pay Day rolls around. This day serves as a friendly reminder that men continue to make more money than women for doing the same work. Currently, the average woman earns 80 cents out of every dollar a white male makes.
Women of color make even less with Black women earning 63 cents on the dollar, Hispanic women earning 53 cents, Native American women earning 58 cents and Asian women doing better than most minorities earning 85 cents on the dollar. But have no fear, the gender wage gap is closing.
According to the U.S. Joint Congress Economic Committee, the current rate of progress estimates that the wage gap will close by 2059. 2059. 2059? I'm going to hold out hope that the wage gap will close sooner than expected. Join me in that hope.
