Non-Disclosure Agreements Silences Victims
Many of the stories published concerning high-profile women during the #MeToo phenomenon involved non-disclosure agreements, which are contracts signed by multiple parties agreeing on the non-disclosure of information.
The problem with non-disclosures in sexual harassment cases, assault cases, and cases related to employment in general, is that it silences victims from speaking freely about their experience and enables their perpetrators to continue their inappropriate and toxic behavior.
For those reasons, I think non-disclosure agreements are harmful to victims in more ways than one and should be banned. In the wake of #MeToo and the current Weinstein trial, I wanted to link readers to information on the 16 states that ban or restrict non-disclosure agreements.
You can find that link here. I encourage you to find out which states are taking non-disclosure seriously.
