Female Ice Hockey Team in Kyrgyzstan in the Spotlight

Women’s ice hockey in Kyrgyzstan. It’s a thing. Trust.org published a story on the first all female ice hockey team out of the central Asian country.

The team, 15 schoolgirls out of the village of Otradnoe, 249 miles east of the capital Bishkek, got together three years ago to play on their coach’s farmland. News of the team spread throughout Europe, and and a Kyrgyz community in Switzerland sent the women professional hockey pads.

In the winter they build a rink, and play against men’s teams since they are the sole women’s team.

This is a fantastic and inspiring story out of Kyrgyzstan. Read more on how these girls are eliminating gender stereotypes.
