UN Secretary-General Blasts Patriarchy in Speech on Gender Inequality
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned the current state of gender inequality in a speech to the New School in Manhattan, where he was receiving an honorary doctorate.
In a speech titled, “Women and Power,” Guterres said, “Just as slavery and colonialism were a stain on previous centuries, women’s inequality should shame us all in the twenty-first." He continued, “Because it is not only unacceptable; it is stupid.”
He went on to list examples of current setbacks in women’s rights issues which include the rise of femicides, assaults on reproductive rights and many more.
If only more men in power felt as strongly about gender inequality as this gentleman does.....
