The New York Women’s Foundation Launches $1 Million Fund for COVID-19 Survivors

The New York Women’s Foundation has recently launched the 2020 Resilience-NYC: COVID-19 Response and Recovery Fund. They will provide $1 million to organizations that help women, transgender, gender non-conforming, non-binary people and their families who’ve been affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

The fund will provide the resources organizations need for urgent community needs including access to healthcare and housing, meal delivery services and helping those who’ve lost income and wages, among many other services.

“Women are the major hubs. We have the responsibility of raising children and caring for older family members,” said President and CEO of the New York Women’s Foundation Ana Oliveira. “We also have a greater economic importance. There is research that is shown that when a dollar is given to a woman, 80% of it is invested back into our community. We know as a way to multiply results, investing in women has the greatest effect.”

Oliveira went on to say COVID-19 has become one of the greatest challenges of our lifetime and she hopes the fund will provide the foundation grantee partners the critical tools its needs to provide relief in this moment of crisis.

The Realist Woman’s take:

The foundation prioritizes organizations that help those in low-income communities, immigrants, those in the LGBT community, women-owned businesses, Muslims and many other marginalized groups.

It doesn’t surprise me to see organizations prioritizing their funds for under-served groups and communities. $1 million is extremely generous and is going to make an immediate impact on people’s lives as we continue to go through this unprecedented crisis.

New York is one of the hardest hit areas of this country currently going through this pandemic and it’s residents, like so many people around the world, need all of the support they can get.
